A blistering hot day in Los Angeles. The kind that makes you grateful for the dappled shade of banana palms, friends with pools, and, with the opening of Mozza 2 Go , (6610 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles; 323-297-1130) arguably the best takeout pizza on the planet. As if we needed the excuse of not turning on our oven to be among the first families to take advantage of Mario Batali, Nancy Silverton, and Joe Bastianich's third phase of their growing Mozza mini empire (preceded by the nearly impossible to get into Pizzeria Mozza and Osteria Mozza).

Some produce has an easy, camera-ready glamour. Think blushing peaches and glossy plums, chubby berries and feathery herbs. And some, like mushrooms — smudged, earth-toned, gilled, spongy, oddly shaped — possess a humbler mien.

Thousands of tourists come annually to this enclave to tour the "Little White House" of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. FDR, who had perhaps the most famous presidential acronym, was the 32nd President of the United States and a polio victim. He came here for the curative powers of the 87-degree temperatures of the nearby mineral springs.

Texans have disagreed on what constitutes barbecue for generations.

Don't zip in and out of Melbourne – take the time to discover what the Australian city has to offer the discerning traveller. QUITE often, a typical tour package to Melbourne will include the Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island or the Dandenong Ranges in its itinerary. No doubt these are great places to visit but they leave holidaymakers with only one or two days in Melbourne itself.

One afternoon in May, President of the United States Barack Obama and his deputy Joe Biden decided on burgers for lunch and dropped by unannounced to Ray's Hell Burger — an independent burger joint in Virginia. A bevy of reporters and bystanders with cameras snapped away as Obama ordered a basic cheddar cheeseburger, medium well, with lettuce, tomatoes, spicy mustard, and no ketchup while Biden picked a Swiss cheeseburger medium well, but topped with ketchup and jalapeño peppers. When the burgers ...

For all its reputation as a warm-weather refresher, on a truly hot afternoon when you're relaxing outside with the smoke from the grill blowing across the yard, a beer has a hard time keeping up. No matter how thick your beer cozy, by the time you reach the bottom half, the heat of the day has sapped the beer's refreshing character right out of the bottle, leaving the rest of your drink tepid and disappointing. Fortunately, there's this stuff called ice, and it has a wonderful way of keeping your drink cold even on the most sultry Fourth of July weekend.
